Omni278

Omni278 Delivers an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) 278 Transaction to UnitedHealthcare

Makes the new UHC admission notification requirement fast, easy, and in the correct 278 format

UnitedHealthcare Admission Notification Requirement

Currently UnitedHealthcare (UHC) requires hospitals to submit notification to UHC of each inpatient admission within 24 hours of the admission. If the hospital does not provide notification within 24 hours to UnitedHealthcare, the claim may be subject to payment reductions, often as much as 50 percent.

Many hospitals are not yet prepared to submit a 278 transaction to UHC in a 24-hour time window.

Which forms of data can Recondo accept in order to submit on behalf of my hospital?

Recondo accepts data in the following formats to streamline and automate the submission process:

  • Facesheet/Registration Document
  • Daily In-House Census
  • Secure E-mails
  • Daily Admitting Batch File

Recondo accepts these formats via an electronic data file, fax, phone call, e-mail message, or through read-only access to the hospital HIS system.

The Recondo Call Center accepts all these inbound messages and converts the information into an electronic 278 transaction. The Call Center electronically submits the 278 transaction, and hospital staff can use the Recondo Control Center Worklist to obtain the UHC notification number and manage and reconcile accounts.

Recondo Admission Notification Service

Recondo Technology, a leader in providing revenue cycle solutions to health care, provides an easy-to-implement service for delivering the admission notification to UnitedHealthcare. The Recondo® Omni278 service accepts various forms of data and formats and submits an accurate and timely electronic 278 transaction to UnitedHealthcare.

How does UnitedHealthcare expect to receive notification of admission?

Providers fall into one of two categories:

  • facilities that have entered into an agreement with UHC to submit admission notifications electronically via the EDI 278
  • facilities that submit via portal, fax and/or phone

Recondo services address both categories.

Recondo supports the electronic submission of the 278 admission notification. Unlike other vendors, Recondo provides a single source for account management, allowing real-time reconciliation, status monitoring, and exception management.

Recondo creates a 278 from many formats:

  • electronic data file
  • fax
  • phone call
  • e-mail message
  • read-only access to the hospital HIS system

What if my hospital is not currently submitting a 278 for our admission notifications?

Recondo has developed the Omni278 service to give hospitals an easy way to submit the 278 admission notification to UnitedHealthcare. The Recondo Omni278 service automates the manual submission process.

How do I get started?

Recondo needs only some basic information to get started:

  • Your National Provider Identifier
  • Payer credentials, logins, and passwords for the UHC website
  • Your logo to appear on Recondo screens
  • An HL7 feed to Omni278
  • Your physician list

How long will it take to implement?

Implementation generally takes two to four weeks following the completion of an executed Recondo Master Services Agreement.
